Hello everyone!  Welcome to our class newsletter.  I will post a new edition each month.

Here are a few things going on in Room 22!

In Language Arts/Reading.........we are starting our new unit entitled, "Let's Learn."  We will be reading about "First Day Jitters", friendship, and new homes & communities.  We will be  working on the skills of identifying characters, setting and plot as well as comparing/contrasting and cause & effect. In writing, students are creating their first personal narratives.

In Social Studies..........we will be working on good citizenship traits and comparing how our community has evolved over time in the areas of transportation, communication, etc.  We look forward to integrating many of these topics with our Language Arts literature.

In Math......... We are beginning our first unit in Go Math! Much of this first unit is a review of 2nd grade skills with a strong emphasis on place value and addition and subtraction facts. Please make sure to check out the Go Math website on our links page to see the various methods being demonstrated in their helpful videos. Students need to be practicing their facts each night!  The students are still struggling which then makes it difficult for them to complete the more complex problems that we will be working on next.

In Science........We are beginning our rock and soil unit.  The students will be collecting soil from various locations as well as rocks to test in class. We will be learning about the 3 main types of rocks, the rock cycle, and how different soils are formed. Make sure to check out our Study and Review Page for fun practice activities.
